Did World War II launch the Civil Rights Movement?

World War II accelerated social change in America. African Americans, Hispanics, Chinese, Japanese, and women were all dramatically impacted by the war, but each in their own way. Minorities and women made huge strides toward equal employment by working in wartime industries. Minorities also served valiantly in the armed forces in segregated units. Many sacrificed their lives for a country that did not treat them as equal to their fellow white citizens.
