The Qing dynasty was the last imperial dynasty of China, beginning in 1636. It ruled China proper from 1644 to 1912, when the Republic of China overthrew it. The end of the Qing Dynasty marked the end of over 2000 years of dynastic rule in China. Dynasties and borders changed many times throughout these thousands of years.
