Teaching Why Wikipedia Often Overlooks Stories of Women in History

Why Wikipedia Often Overlooks Stories of Women in History

The past few years have seen an increase in attention to the systemic discrimination facing women in a range of professions. Hollywood stars, journalists, and banking and government employees have all spoken out with stories of discrimination.  Discrimination is also a problem on user-driven sites like Wikipedia. In January 2021, Wikimedia turned 20 years old and was the thirteenth most popular website worldwide. In December 2020, the online encyclopedia had over 22 billion page views.
