Hurricanes: Risks & Resilience

Hurricanes: Risks & Resilience

This Knowledge Set is designed to help students explore the impacts of hurricanes and the ways individuals and governments can work together to support disaster relief efforts. As students progress through this set, they will learn about the impacts of Hurricane Harvey (a major hurricane that affected many cities along the Gulf Coast in August 2017) and examine arguments about how the risks of this hurricane could have been reduced. Students will also learn about ways ordinary citizens have worked with local officials to provide support after disasters. Although the texts in this set focus on Hurricane Harvey, the lessons learned from this event can be applied to most major hurricanes.
