Ashoka, sometimes called Ashoka the Great, was an Indian emperor of the Mauryan dynasty. He was thought by many people to be one of India’s greatest emperors. He ruled over almost all the Indian subcontinent from about 268 to 232 BCE. He was the grandson of the founder of the Mauryan dynasty, Chandragupta Maurya. Ashoka helped spread Buddhism.
