How do you use Actively Learn in your classroom?

In-class reading, research, and quizzes

What problems were you experiencing in your classroom or school prior to adopting Actively Learn?

Students weren't going deep enough to answer the questions. With Actively Learn it encourages students to resubmit answers to questions with immediate feedback from the teacher.

What solutions did you try to address problems in your school/classroom prior to adopting Actively Learn?

Just redoing work the old fashion way without immediate feedback.

How has Actively Learn helped improve your students’ learning and/or your teaching?

Actively Learn has helped me to deepen the knowledge of my students through re-reading and answering questions along the way. Students are engaged in the reading. They only have to read a small portion of text before they have to answer a question. This really helps with their comprehension skills. Another thing that has improved is students ability to research. With the Actively Learn research option students can research and store their articles right on the Actively Learn site. There is also a google extension where students can embed quotes from the articles to be cited in their essays or what ever they are doing. We used it this year for the 1st time and it was AMAZING! Not only that, but there is a tool to cite the text in MLA format right in the research platform. We will be using this a lot more next year!!

How do you use Actively Learn with your students? What type of content do you assign?

We mainly use Actively Learn for teaching various Reading standards. We teach the standards through mini lessons etc in the classroom, but use Actively Learn to solidify understanding and to practice the standards. We also use it for Research.

What advice would you have for teachers who are new to Actively Learn?

As a teacher you should definitely try out Actively Learn. I can't imagine having students read articles etc without Actively Learn now. Not only can you embed questions for them to answer you can give them notes to clarify meaning etc. Students can also highlight and annotate as they read. It's such a great platform for teaching. Dive in and give it a try. You will like it.
